ACEMCO Motorsports finishes third in GT1 at Mid-Ohio

ACEMCO Motorsports finished third in GT1 for their first podium of the year in round three of the American Le Mans Series race run today at Mid-Ohio.

Johnny Mowlem started the number 63 ACEMCO Motorsports Saleen S7-R from the third place GT1 starting position. On the opening lap Mowlem was able to move-up two positions getting by the Maserati and one of the Corvettes to run in second. Following a cycle of pit stops the team found themselves leading the GT1 category for several laps early in the race. Despite a slight miscue in the pits and a late race rain storm the team was able to stand on the podium in third place.

“We were fortunate to get a wave-bye from the pace car and assume the lead when others pitted,” said Mowlem. “The car was really good at the beginning. The Maserati is running with very little restriction and we showed every bit the pace that they have. It is nice to be back on the podium, but we still have some work ahead of us for Lime Rock and the run to the end of the season after the Le Mans break.” said Johnny Mowlem.

“Johnny did a nice job at the beginning and the team strategy was good to take advantage of the breaks offered by the caution periods,” said Terry Borcheller. “My stint was good at the beginning, the car was consistent, except for a little skating through the fast turn one, but overall not too bad. When the rain came with about six laps to go we had to make a decision to put on new slicks, rains or keep the same tires. We did a splash and kept the same tires on, which was the right call.”

“It is nice to be on the podium again,” said Jeff Giangrande. “The race was full of incidents and the caution periods were really mixing-up the field. The team did a good job to stay on top of the action, a slight miscue cost us a little bit, but in the end the third place is a good result today. We are getting closer to the front of the field with every outing and with the time off next month we have some more testing planned and new pieces coming for Lime Rock.”
