French cycling champion Richard Virenque has found a new passion. After being the patron of the recently held FIA World Touring Car Championship’s in Magny-Cours he now will take place behind the steer wheel of a race car himself, that is was Belgium newspaper La DerniÌre Heure reports in this morning’s edition.
The newspaper says that Virenque will compete in in the FIA GT 24-hours race at Spa-Francorchamps, scheduled for the end of June. Together with Didier de RadiguÌs, David Halliday and former formula-1 pilot Philippe Alliot they will enter a Chrysler Viper.
Richard Virenque has collected a total of 46 victories during his 14 year pro-career and finished the Tour the France wearing the Polka dot Jersey of “King of the Mountains” for a record seven times.
