The American Le Mans Series visits Canada this weekend and the fabulously fast and exciting Mosport circuit. Oliver and Olivier won the GTS class last year at the same fixture and will be seeking a fourth ALMS class win to help their championship aspirations. Oliver enjoys Mosport, “It may not be the safest track but it’s so much fun to drive around that every driver gets out of the car with a broad grin on their face! It’s definitely one of those tracks that rewards the driver for pushing that little bit harder.
“It’s an old style circuit that hasn’t been sanitised with chicanes. For example, Turn 2 is a big corner because you approach it quickly in fifth gear, braking and turning as you go over a crest! It’s quite daunting as, when you go over the crest, the laws of physics simply take over and you become a passenger!”
Olivier Beretta also likes Mosport, “Mosport is one of the best circuits in the ALMS calendar with it’s fast corners, long straights and changes in elevation. It will suit the Corvette C6-R very well.”
After their win at Road America, Oliver and Olivier are now just three points behind their teammates Ron Fellows and Johnny O’Connell in the 2005 GT1 drivers championship, with three races to go. They will be battling to finish ahead of the sister No.3 Corvette but the overall aim is for a Corvette to be on the top step of the podium. The competition has got much tougher over the season and the ACEMCO Saleen S7R has been right in the battle with the Corvettes in the last two races, since they gained from some regulation changes designed to make the class even more competitive.
The 2.46 mile 10 turn Mosport circuit is Ron Fellows’ home track and he and Johnny O’Connell will also be hoping to make this their fourth GT1 ALMS win of 2005! It is destined to be fast, exciting, competitive and a ’must see’ race!
