Terry Borcheller heads north this week for the American Le Mans Series Canadian race at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ont. The Gainesville, Ga., driver will team with Johnny Mowlem of London, England, in a Saleen S7R for the Sept. 4 race on the 2.459-mile road course.
“I like the track it’s got a great rhythm to it and it’s high-speed. I like the turn eight, nine, 10 combination coming onto the front straight. Turn eight is very fast!” Borcheller enthused. “The car should be good there. It should also be slightly improved from [the last race at] Road America.”
Borcheller honed his race skills at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, then became an instructor at the Phoenix school in 1990. Although he has since moved to Georgia, he maintains close ties with the school and its founder, Bob Bondurant.
“My employment at the school was probably one of the biggest helps to making it in professional racing because I drove every day and I was around people who were in the business and had been successful in it. I learned a lot about the business of racing and about driving. Over the years, I’ve really loved the job and the relationship I’ve kept with Bob Bondurant has been great. He’s a very good friend of mine, on top of being my boss,” Borcheller said.
“I think it’s one of the best schools in the country. You’ll learn a lot whether you’re a seasoned racer or a beginner. You’re also going to be a better, safer driver. It’s a high-performance driving school it’s not really a racing school, but they do have a wide variety of classes. You can have no experience or be at the top of your game and still benefit.”
