Shell appointed new official fuel supplier for the Le Mans 24 hours

Shell and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), organiser of the “24 Heures du Mans”, are very proud to announce a major technical partnership that will introduce Shell as the official fuel supplier to the legendary motor race from 2006.

The three-year deal means that for the first time, Shell’s high performance V-Power fuel technology will be put to the test through 24 hours of the world’s most gruelling motor racing. With an unrivalled racing history, covering over five decades of on-track success at the top-level of international motorsport, Shell was chosen by the ACO for its pioneering fuel technology and its ability to develop more environmentally sustainable racing fuels.

The “24 Heures du Mans? is widely regarded as the ultimate test of performance and endurance, setting a unique challenge to drivers, engineers and scientists. As a result, it is the perfect testing ground for proving the outstanding performance of Shell V-Power fuel technology - already chosen by countless drivers around the world and by the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One race team.

With increasing attendance, TV viewership and press interest in the race, the “24 Heures du Mans? is bigger and better than ever. Now, with Shell on board, and major improvements to the circuit itself, 2006 is set to be one of the most exciting years yet, in what will be the ACO’s centenary.

Commenting on the announcement, Daniel Poissenot, ACO Sports Manager and Deputy General Manager, said: “It gives us great pleasure to sign an agreement with a partner so involved in the history of the “24 Heures du Mans”. Shell is a partner which has been able to live up to two of our most important expectations: providing a fuel which links technological innovation in the domain of motorsport and everyday consumption for the road user, but who is also concerned about developing a truly innovative product which is environmentally friendly”.

Bruce Rosengarten, Shell’s Vice President of Retail Marketing, said: “We are delighted to return to the “24 Heures du Mans? as a major technical partner of the ACO. No other race provides a more gruelling challenge in which to develop and test fuels, which can make a real difference for our customers. With our fuels? track record, on both road and racing circuits, we are looking forward to an exciting and successful future with ACO in cutting-edge competition.”
