Chris Buncombe returns to the FIA GT

Chris Buncombe is set to make his return to the Spa 24 Hour race next weekend driving the SRT Corvette C5-R. Although Chris was driving the #16 JMB Racing Maserati MC12 during ’05, he missed out on the Spa race last year. His last visit to the circuit was in 2004 when he made the debut of the Nissan 350Z.
Chris will be joined in at the Belgian Team by Porsche Supercup regular Geoffrey Horion, plus Davide Hart and Maxime Soulet. Having just had a few laps in the Corvette on the official test day earlier in the month, Chris is looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the C5-R and the challenge of Spa.

“It’s great to be back at Spa and I’m really looking forward to experiencing the Corvette. The C5 has an excellent endurance record and is a fantastic car to drive so I can’t wait to get into the race. The GT1 class is as ever extremely competitive but I’m confident that with this car and the SRT Team experience, having previously won the Zolder 24 Hours, we can stand a great chance of a good result” commented Chris.

The challenges from the GT1 class will come from the pre race favourites and last years Spa 24 Hours winners Vitaphone Maserati MC12, plus a number of Aston Martin DBR9’s, the Zakspeed Saleen and of course the other Corvettes.

The Spa 24 Hours is a particularly special race for Chris as his Father competed in the event 7 times during the 70’s & 80’s driving the Cheverolet Camaro and factory Ford Capri’s.

“My Father has finished this great race on the Podium a couple of times. It is a big challenge to finish this 24 hour race but it has to be an aim for us to finish also on the Podium. The main thing, as in any endurance race is to try and keep pit stops to a minimum and hope for minimal number of mechanical problems” said Chris.
