After the two 1,5 hour 24 Hours of Spa nightly qualifying sessions, Spyker claimed a ninth position on the grid. In the first session Spyker Squadron managed to set good times in their C8 Spyder which were not improved in the second qualifying session. A third qualifying session is scheduled for today but the team decided to install a new race engine.
“Last year we raced against the Porsches” says team manager Hans van Rennes, “but this year, with seven Ferrari’s in front of us, the competition has significantly changed”.
He continues “we are fairly happy with yesterday’s results; we were the quickest GT2 team on the grid with Dunlops tires and managed to complete many laps without any problems. Jille de Kleine and Peter van Erp, both responsible for the car, have decided to skip today’s third qualifying session and to focus on installing a new race engine and prepare the car for the race tomorrow”.
The race in the Belgium Ardennes is the most prestigious FIA GT Championship race of the season and promises to be a spectacular one with no less than 44 cars on the grid. The 24-hour race starts at 16:00 on Saturday. The weather forecast looks promising; sunny with a slim chance for some thunderstorms.
