The Convers MenX team are looking forward to the penultimate race of the Le Mans Series season at Donington Park where Peter Kox, Robert Pergl and Alexey Vasiliev will fight for their championship position.
It is the turn for the UK round of the Le Mans Series and endurance racing is heading for its debut race at Donington Park, which replaced Silverstone where the last two Le Mans Series events were held. Donington has a rich history, as you might expect from a track opened in 1931.
It is obvious that the track has undergone modifications over the course of the years and the Le Mans Series event uses a 4020 metre long track.
The competition in the GT1 class is by far the closest one this year. Just seven points separate the first five cars. The Convers MenX team currently lie second just two points behind the leader. The first three races showed that the key to success is consistency and that is exactly what the team managed to do with three points finishes. The team also has fond memories of last year’s UK race that was held in treacherous weather conditions where the black car sailed to a win.
Peter Kox: “It has been a while since I last raced at Donington! It is a high downforce track, which is not ideal for our car which likes fast tracks more. The track is new in the Le Mans Series calendar and everyone will start from zero. We know that we can expect tough competition and the most important thing is to keep our consistency.”
Robert Pergl: “I raced with The Ferrari Challenge at Donington and to be honest it is not my favourite track. Anyway, the break has been quite long and I am looking forward to getting back to racing in the Le Mans Series.”
Alexey Vasiliev: “I have raced many times at Donington; my first race was with Formula Opel in the Nations Cup. The track has an undulating profile and I like to drive there. The fight in our class is incredibly close and we will do our best to keep our good position.”
Ivo Horn, technical director: “We enjoyed our best result of the season last year in the UK but it was at Silverstone. We have a rough idea what we can expect thanks to our Ferrari Challenge starts but the Maranello is a very different animal. As always in England, weather can play a decisive role in the outcome of the race. The championship is very close in the GT1 class and we need to score points everywhere. Of course, we want to maintain our excellent reliability record.”
