The Aston Martin DBR9 of Gabriele Gardel, Pedro Lamy and Vincent Vosse today raced to Championship success in the 2006 Le Mans Series, winning one of the mostly hotly contested battles of the season.
By finishing second in the GT1 category in today’s final round of the Le Mans Series, the Larbre Compétition run team gained enough points to put themselves clear at the top of the classification, and maintained a 100% success record for the French endurance specialists.
By winning the title, Larbre has now won seven Championship titles in a row – four in the FIA GT Championship, two in the Le Mans Series and one in the FFSA French GT Championship.
A delighted Jack Leconte, Team Principal of the Aston Martin Racing Larbre team, was full of praise for everyone involved in this year’s programme. “As always the team has worked very well together – drivers, management, engineers and the crew. We have only one channel and it’s tuned to victory. I am very proud to have achieved victory with this new constructor to the Le Mans Series, and I am proud to have managed the first Aston Martin DBR9 chassis ever built, adding to its ‘palmares’ (record of racing history). We are the first team to win a Championship with this new generation of GT1 racing car, and Larbre is now ready to organise and prepare for many adventures with Aston Martin for 2007.
“Michelin has competed with, and been a partner to, Larbre since we entered into endurance racing and I really appreciate their support. Today was a special day because we were competing in a category where all the cars were equipped with Michelin tyres and we proved ourselves to be the best.
“Motul have also been with us as a partner since the first hours of Larbre Compétition and our first win at Le Mans in 1993, and they have been a partner to victory with us.
“I am totally happy to take a third title for Frédéric Dor and Care Racing – a complete success story with their magical cars, firstly the Ferrari 550 and now the Aston Martin DBR9. I share the passion that Frédéric and Yves Dor have for endurance racing and they have supported GT racing with the most beautiful cars in the world. It is a proud day for many people involved in this programme, but especially for me.”
