At the start of the second hour the #6 Penske Motorsport Porsche RS Spyder got into major troubles in the pit lane. The team removed the bonnet and were still investigating the problem when the green flag was waved about 15 minutes after the Highcroft/Intersport accident.
While the drama at Penske continued out on the track there was action out on the track as well. Weaver overtook Johansson but hit the BMW of Sellers only a split-second later. Sellers did a brilliant job to keep the BMW on the track, Weaver had to get the Dyson car into the pit lane to have it checked for damage. After the tyres were changed due to a puncture Weaver got back on the track just in front of Minassian and Werner and he found himself in a fight for position yet again.
After an hour and a half Johansson dived to the inside of McNish and took the Zytek into the lead of the race. A few minutes later, while Weaver got a penalty for the contact with the BMW, it was Marco Werner in the Audi who overtook the Creation for position.
The number two in the GT2 class, the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 430 GT, caused the third full course caution of the track when Kelleners put the car in the wall. With severe damage to the right side of the car and water pouring from the radiator the race was over for the team. The caution also resulted in the next round of pit stops, with all teams coming in for a fresh set of tyres, a new load of fuel and a driver change. Both Zytek and Creation had problems with their pit stops again.
At the two hour markthe field was released again. Penske Motorsport got into more trouble. The #6 Spyder returned to the track just before the green flag was shown, but the leading #7 car of Luhr was put behind the wall with spilt fuel in the cockpit. Because of the Penske problems it was Clint Field in the Intersport Lola taking over the lead in LMP2. In the fight for position on track after the green flag was shown it was the #3 Corvette that was hit by the #9 Highcroft and had to get through the grass and into the pit lane. After a check it returned to the track.
