Early this week the two Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R’s, that raced the full Le Mans Series season this year, have been shipped to Dubai for the last round of the FIA GT Championship. The race, a three-hour endurance race, will be held on Saturday 18 November. Last year Spyker Squadron was very successful in Dubai and finished the race in second position.
Spyker Squadron will promote one of their loyal sponsors who will announce a new company during the race weekend, therefore the familiar silver and orange livery has been replaced by another color scheme inline with the sponsor’s colors.
After the last Le Mans Series race in Jarama, near Madrid, Spain, the team has worked hard on various improvements. Two separate tests were planned, the first was a two-day test session focused on both mechanical grip and aerodynamics and the second a test day to verify all results of the earlier test runs. In a total of no less than 73 runs the team tested various new front splitters, rear wings, a new floor, several diffusers and changes to the roof.
The team fitted one on the C8 Spyders with air pressure sensors, to measure under- and over- air pressures, and load cells on the shock absorbers to measure the load on the dampers to find the best aerodynamic balance.
Peter van Erp: “We have spent a lot of time in testing a variety of new parts. All tests went fine, some changes worked quite well and other did not and might a need bit more study and research. In a second test session we have proofed that our new floor and rear wings works very well and we have decided that we will fit both C8 Spyder’s with this new floor and rear wing for the race in Dubai”.
But there are more improvements for Dubai, and also on the engine side there is news; a new exhaust system has been developed by the team and new intake pipes have been fitted, giving the engine a bit more power in high revs. Spyker Squadron is also pleased to announce that it will partner with Michelin in Dubai.
The factory C8 Spyder C8 GT2R’s, with number 79 and 80, will be driven by Jeroen Bleekemolen and Jonny Kane, Peter Kox and Peter Dumbreck. The team will head for Dubai this weekend.
