The Larbre Compétition Ferrari 550 Maranello Evo has clinched the final pole position of the 2006 season. In a fierce battle for first place the French team beat both Aston Martin Racing BMS DBR9’s. Earlier in the day the FIA GT concluded that the Ferrari did not conform to the GT1 rules and placed the car in the G2 class, losing its 40kg handicap weight as well.
The decision turned out to be perfect for Larbre. Frédéric Makowiecki went out on the track and gave the Aston Martins, Maserati’s, Saleen and Corvette a hard time. Makowiecki clocked a fastest lap time of 1.55.987, just 0.080s faster than the BMS Aston Martin of Fabio Babini. Fabrizio Gollin took third place 0.009s behind his team mate. The GLPK Carsport Corvette driven by Mike Hezemans finished the qualifying session in fourth place just over a tenth of a second behind Makowiecki.6).
Ferrari also dominated in GT2 qualifying. Despite qualifying ace Kirkaldy not being with the team this weekend, Scuderia Ecosse drove the fastest lap time in the class. Tim Mullen set a 2.01.260 which meant the team finished the season with ten pole positions from ten races. The AF Corse Ferrari driven by Mika Salo took second place 0.622s behind Mullen. Preventing a Ferrari 430 GT2 cleansweep Jeroen Bleekemolen put his Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R in third place, its sister car with Peter Dumbreck behind the wheel clocked a sixth time. Team Felbermayr-Proton’s Porsche 996 GT3 RSR was the quickest Porsche, they finished the qualifying in seventh place.
