Italian touring car driver Salvatore Tavano will switch from tin tops to sportscars this season. The 26-year old driver from Siracusa, Italy competed in the FIA World Touring Car Championship in 2006 and will join the Le Mans Series with the Italian Racing Box team. Tavano will be driving the Racing Box Saleen S7R alongside fellow Italians Marco Cioci and Pier Giuseppe Perazzini, who were announced by the team earlier this month.
Salvatore Tavano competed in the WTCC, ETCC and Italian Touring Car Series since 2001, winning the Italian SuperProduction Championship in 2003 as an official Alfa Romeo driver.
It is unclear if Miguel Ramos, who was announced as third driver on January 5, will be with the team after all. In today’s press release his name was not mentioned for the 2007 season.
