The first official test session of the 2007 FIA GT Championship was held today at the beautiful Monza circuit in Italy. The test started on a wet track, after heavy overnight rain, but dried during the test leading to lap times coming down all through the day. There were three sessions today for the GT1 and GT2 cars, with 20 teams testing their 2007 equipment. After three hours and fifteen minutes of testing it was the Aston Martin Racing BMS DBR9 of Fabio Babini and Jamie Davies that set the fastest lap time of the day, followed by the RaceAlliance Aston Martin DBR9 in the hands of Karl Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp. Third fastest in the GT1 category was the All-Inkl.com Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT of Dutchmen Peter Kox and Jos Menten.
Fastest car in GT2 was Jaime Melo’s Michelotto Ferrari 430 GT2. Second fastest was the Edil Cris Racing Team Ferrari of Ruberti/Cressoni/Giammaria with the Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari, driven by Niarchos/Mullen/Kirkdaly, completing an Italian top three.
