Despite not being able to get the pole position for round 2 of the American Le Mans Series at St. Petersburg yesterday Audi showed its pace once again during this morning’s warmup. McNish took the Audi R10 through the streets in a time of 1:04.729, a time noone improved.
Andretti Green Racing driver Bryan Herta put his LMP2 Acura just behind the McNish Audi and clocked a 1:04.985. Once again close to the top was the Penske Porsche RS Spyder that will start from pole for today’s race. At the end of the warmup no less than six cars within one second of each other.^For the first time this weekend there was a Porsche on top in the GT2 category as well. Wolf Henzler put his Tafel Racing 997 GT3 RSR on first place, beating the Risi Competizione Ferrari 430 GT2 by over half a second.
In GT1 Magnussen was the fastest of the two Corvettes.
Only a few hours remain before the start of the inaugural Acura Sports Car Challenge of St. Petersburg. With Audi, Porsche and Acura so close to each other the whole weekend already it promises to become a very interesting race.
