Classic Endurance starts at Monza

© Planetlemans - Gabriel Portos

Classic Endurance Racing has started its fourth season in a stylish way. No less than 37 cars were on the starting grid of this fast circuit, under a bright sun. An absolute record for the C.E.R. which collects in these first spring days the results of the work achieved during winter time. Indeed, with stretching its eligibility period until 1979 and becoming a qualifying step for the Le Mans Classic C.E.R. has reached the level granted by the quality of its grid since now three years.

37 cars for a grid very well balanced between GT car and protos. But look, in spite of the friendly atmosphere in the paddock, the battle is harsh on the track. All competitors, happy to meet again pushed the cars to their own limits but Classic Endurance Racing obliges, without touching the others. At the end of the qualifications, we could even find ten cars within the same second!

Girls like to have fun! Brand new for this 2007 season, amongst the gentlemen drivers, a lady has imposed her style. Nevertheless, 24 year-old Corentine Quiniou is not a novice: first lady and youngest crew prizes at the Dakar last year, she has started on karting, Formule France, Formule Renault Elf Campus racetracks, among others… Along this weekend on the Milanese circuit, Corentine was twice happy sharing her father’s Chevron B16 1970’s wheel. She finished 11th, very honourable for a first C.E.R experience.

Winner Jean-Marc Luco, a Classic Endurance Racing regular has, behind the wheel of his Porsche 908/4, revived the former 1000 KM de Monza when thirty years ago the modern race was won by the same type of car. As for Stefano Rosina he had, despite his pole, to leave the victory to his Swiss challenger, but placed his Lola T70 second, only 1"55 later. Three winners on the podium with Luco, Rosina, Cazalières and three cars which stamped in turn motor racing history: Porsche,Lola, Chevron.

A promising first round before the second meeting in Valencia (Esp) on 4, 5 & 6 May.
35 competitors are already announced. The competition should be serious since this year, C.E.R will offer a season classification.
