Just before the Le Mans 24 Hours IMSA published an interesting bulletin with new rules to be applied as of the Lime Rock ALMS round. The text of the first paragraph reads: "All "LM"P2 cars must use engine air restrictors as listed in the 2007 ACO TECHNICAL REGULATIONS, Appendix 1, Section B, Articles B.1 and B.2, unless otherwise specified within this bulletin."
Paragraphs 2 and 3 make exceptions for turbocharged and the Mazda engine which means effectively that Porsche and Acura will be running with the 5% restrictor rule that the ACO instituted for 2007.
In fact, this means that the ALMS will align with the ACO rules and we will see Audi dominating the rest of the races, with the LMP2s having a much harder time to claim an overall win. While the TV colleagues won’t be able to run the P1 vs P2 story at the beginning of each race I am sure the Audi team will be happy to see this changing, will this also speed up the move of Acura or Porsche to LMP1 or the LMS?
