FIA GT Spa 24: Race Hour 19 and 20

© Planetlemans - Vincent van Kempen

Pedro Lamy is about to overtake Fabrizio Gollin for the lead in the Total Spa 24 Hours. What an exciting morning so far.
10:00- Gollin is in the pit lane. The Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati is now leading the race.

10:01- Longin also into the pit. There is a yellow flag at turn 20!

10:02- The Safety Car is out again!

10:04- The nr 78 JMB Racing Ferrari 430 and nr 175 Sport Garage Ferrari 430 GT3 have crashed in La Source after hitting standing water. Both cars aquaplaned into the wall.

10:11- Safety car is still on the track.

10:14- Official retirement of the nr 78 JMB Racing Ferrari 430

10:15- Green flag!!

10:17- The Trackspeed Racing Porsche nr 118 has crashed heavily going up into Eau Rouge. The car hit the pit exit wall and debries are all over the place. Johnny Lang tries to get the car away from the scene of the accident, but the Safety Car is already out on the track again.

10:19- Lang got the Porsche in the right direction and is slowly making his way to the pit. Problem is he needs to do a near complete lap to get there.

10:26- We are still behind the safety car, the tracks seems clear though.

10:31- The safety car will stay on the track until the race director considers the track safe enough to race on.

10:33- At some parts of the track there is so much water racing at full speed is not safe. As it is still raining it remains to be seen when the green flag is shown.

10:40- The safety car is still out on the track, lights are on.

10:44- Classification in GT1: Vitaphone Racing Team (1) - Carsport Holland (5) - PK Carsport (4)

10:45- Classification in GT2: BMS Scuderia Italia (97) - IMSA Performance Matmut (76) - Tech9 Motorsport (99)

10:48- The next hour will also be covered in this article, as nothing really happened this hour…

10:54- Lights are still activated on the safety car

11:00- Five hours remaining…

11:07- We announced the retirement of the nr 74 Ebimotors Porsche just before 10:00. Fortunately we were wrong. The car is in fact still racing and is fifth in GT2.

11:09- De Simone and Kirkaldy are in the pit.

11:10- We are going green next time by!

11:15- Exactly an hour after the safety car came out the cars are at full speed again!

11:19- The Vitaphone Maserati MC12s are now first and fourth. In between are the Corvettes of Carsport Holland (2nd) and PK Carsport (3rd)

11:21- Montanari to third place. A great fight with Kumpen ended in La Source as Montanari put the MC12 next to the Corvette C5-R and passed it coming through the turn.

11:27- 1 Biagi <- 1:20.256 -> 5 Fässler.

11:32- Fässler was eight seconds quicker the last lap. Are we getting a reverse story of what we saw earlier this morning?

11:36- The gap is back to a minute. Fässler is much quicker in the wet.

11:42- Fässler is quickly catching Biagi. Possible cause is cutting the Raidillon…

11:49- The gap has gone back to 42 seconds…but the team manager of Carsport Holland has to report to the race director immediately. Something to do with the moves through Raidillon.

11:56- Montanari is in the box. Gap between first and second is steady around 45 seconds.

11:58- Montanari is still in the box, problems at the rear of the car…
