As expected the rain is pouring down in the Ardennes causing the warm-up for the Total 24 Hours of Spa to be run on a very wet track. Quickest in the session was the nr 33 Jetalliance Racing Aston Martin DBR9. Karl Wendlinger lapped the track in 2:41.042. Second in the session was the nr 5 Carsport Holland Corvette C6-R at 0.680 seconds, the nr 16 JMB Racing Maserati MC12 set the third fastest time, 1.813 seconds slower than the DBR9.
Halfway the session Jonny Kane in the nr 62 Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari 430 GT2 lost control of the car in the run down to the Bus Stop. The Ferrari slid through the grass and made a high jump over the track after hitting the curbstones. Kane returned to the pit lane where the team can asses the damage to the car.
In the treacherous conditions around the track more drivers lost control of their car. The wall at Les Combes attracted no less than 3 cars. The JMB Racing nr 78 Ferrari 430 GT2 and nr 18 SRT Corvette C5-R slid into the barrier backwards while Fred Bouvy in the nr 4 PK Corvette C5-R hit the barrier with the right front.
Quickest GT2 car was the nr 97 Scuderia Italia Porsche 997 (2:44.952) in fourth place overall. The Belgian Racing Vertigo was eleventh overall and quickest this morning in G2.
The Lamborghini Gallardo nr 216 of S-berg Racing was the fastest GT3 and Coupe du Roi car out on the track, setting the fifteenth time overall. Gilles Vannelet’s Sport Garage Ferrari 430 GT3 finished in nineteenth place. With this result it was the best classified G3 car.
