Planetlemans weekend roundup (August 25/26)

As the American Le Mans Series competed at Mosport there were several other series in action. Look who won where in our new section, the Planetlemans weekend roundup! Here are the reports and results from across Europe and the United States for the weekend of August 25th and 26th.

International GT Open - Italian supremacy at Oschersleben

The International GT Open went to Germany for its fourth weekend of the 2007 season. In perfect weather conditions (temperature 25°C and sunny) the Pro-Am race was won by Scuderia Playteam Sarafree drivers Michele Maceratesi and Andrea Montermini in a Ferrari 430. The first race was totally dominated by the Italian car as no less than nine 430s ended in the top ten.

On Sunday the GT Open race saw eight Ferrari 430s ending inside the top 10. The race was however won by the Italian Autorlando Porsche 997 which had qualified on pole position and was still at front when the chequered flag came out. As Bonetti/Peter did not finish in the top three the Autorlando duo closed the gap in the championship to just one single point.

Avon Tyres British GT Championship – Barwell Motorsport takes it all

Untypical warm weather welcomed the teams at Thruxton for rounds 9 and 10 of the 2007 championship. The Barwell Motorsport bio fuel Aston Martin DBRS9 of Drayson and Cocker beat the opposition and won their second race of the season. The result also meant they were sharing the lead after nine rounds.

On Sunday it was Barwell Motorsport again, this time Drayson and Cocker had to settle with second place and de Zille Butler and Harrington took the win. Cocker battled with the Christians in Motorsport Ferrari of Lester and Simonsen, but that car suffered problems. The road was clear for Barwell and after battling it out on the track de Zille Butler/Harrington clinched the second Barwell victory of the weekend.

ADAC GT Masters – Menten winner on Zolder return

No less than nineteen cars took part in the ADAC GT Masters race at Zolder which was driven as a support event for the Champ Car World Series. Jos Menten, who raced in the Belcar here on several occasions, and team mate Christopher Haase won the first race in their Reiter Engineering run Lamborghini Gallardo on Saturday. After the Champ Car World Series had completed their race it was time for the second ADAC GT Masters race, which was again won by Menten and Haase. The podium had the same faces as yesterday, this time the ARGO Racing car finished second ahead of the Kox/v. Thurn u. Taxis Reiter car.

Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series – Gainsco on top at the Infineon Raceway

Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty lead the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series after winning in Sonoma on Saturday. The pair was second behind the Brumos Porsche of David Donohue and Darren Law, but a full course caution period after 93 laps handed the lead to the Gainsco duo. They kept the lead for the remainder of the race and won the Armed Forces Grand-Am 250, taking the championship lead with them as well. With one race to go everything is still open in the fight for the 2007 series title.
