Quifel ASM not going to Interlagos, RML will be LMP2 champion

© Planetlemans - Gabriel Portos

Good sources have confirmed to Planetlemans that the Quifel ASM Lola will not be making the trip to Interlagos in November. With a 6 point difference behind LMP2 championship leaders RML and the almost certainty of half-points given the low attendance to the Brazilian round, even a victory would not have changed the championship lead. Less than 6 cars in class during practice means points are halved according to the LMS rules.
Saulnier Racing (third in the championship) had already confirmed their absence to our colleagues of Endurance-Info a few weeks ago which means as well that the 2008 Le Mans 24 Hours automatic invitations for the LMS are decided as well for the LMP2 category: RML and Quifel ASM will be invited to La Sarthe. This could have been very different if the "louvers affair" (see previous Planetlemans article) would have not prevented a Quifel ASM victory at Silverstone which would have meant 4 extra points…but racing is racing.
