PMB Motorsport looking at the LMS and FIA GT

During the 2007 season several events had a Porsche 996 GT2 R on their provisional entrylist. Unfortunately for the Porsche fans the car, entered in the GT1 category, was never on the final entrylist and missed out race after race.

For 2008 the ex-PSI car will return to the track, albeit not in an international series. Mediagroep Van Dyck Belcar team McDonald’s Racing has teamed up with PMB Motorsport and will enter the car in the upcoming Belcar championship with François Bouillon and Jean-Claude Voets behind the wheel.

In the build-up for the new Belcar season the team will be testing with experienced drivers like Wolfgang Kaufmann and Fabrice Walfisch, while the tests will be supervised by ex-PSI engineer Ansgar and PSI founder Christian Schumacher.

Besides the Belcar plans the team also announced their intention to do an international programme, next to the Mediagroep Van Dyck Belcar. Two brand new Porsche 997 GT2 Rs are planned to race in the Le Mans Series and the FIA GT Championship. For the LMS potential drivers are Robert Collard, Gary Eastwood and a yet to be named third driver. The other 997 GT2 R would be entered in the FIA GT with Wolfgang Kaufmann and Frank Mountain behind the wheel.

For now the Belcar season is the only programme that is confirmed. Let’s hope that the team will be on the grid of the two biggest European endurance and GT series as well in 2008 and not repeat the 2007 history of the GT1 Porsche.

  4. Its nice to see that people recognize the sponsorship, but what about those stupid looking, boy-racer wheels. Lets hope they change them.
But in all seriousness, its great to see teams expanding into the sportscars arena.

  6. Sponorship is everything for teams so i suppose the color of the car is a last thing on their mind lol. I dont think it will trouble the GT1 frontrunners because of the backing from factorys such as Aston Martin Racing and GM Corvette. But its about time we got some new GT cars.

  7. We indeed used “McDonald’s drive-thru” as pitsbox name during the 24h of Zolder.
