Argentina working hard to host FIA-GT

470 FIAGT circuit Potrero de los Funes

© FIA-GT // The works at Potrero de los Funes are intensifying

The new circuit at Potrero de los Funes is being worked on with high intensity and dedication as reported by our colleagues from campeones.net.ar. Supported by FIA, the local organizers are working 2 x 12 hour shifts to finalize all details ahead of time.

The pits (including a 900 sq meter control tower) and a state-of-the-art hospital including intensive care are being built with a November target. The press room will be able to hold 300 journalists and the main grandstands should accomodate 10.000 spectators.

Both the FIA-GT and the Brazilian GT3 championship (including ex-F1 aces Fittipaldi and Piquet) should be running in the brand new 6250 meter long circuit on November 23rd but will there be local presence? Strong sources in Argentina are almost sure of the presence of a GT3 team but there is also an intention of a GT1 team with a vision of having at least an Argentinian driver joining the regular FIA-GT ranks in 2009. Time will tell if these intentions turn into something tangible….
