With the presentation of the all-new WR LMP2008 and three drivers for the 2008 Le Mans Series season Welter Racing started its final preparations for a return to sportscar racing after having been away from the circuit for over a year. The small French squad teamed up with the Salini Group and used the 2007 season to develop the new car.

In December 2007 Gerard Welter confirmed his team would return, with a new chassis, new drivers and a brand new Zytek 3,4l V8 engine and on Friday the final announcement regarding the teams drivers was made and images of the car’s livery were made available. Gerard Welter revealed the philosophy of the car: “A simple and modern car, looking at an ecological future, capable of accepting various engines.”

The driver line-up for 2008 will consist of Welter Racing’s regular driver Patrice Roussel who is joined by Philippe and Stephane Salini. In 2007 all three drivers raced in the French V de V championship for the Extrême Limite team.

Welter Racing has applied for an entry in the Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours. By the end of February the team should know whether they have been accepted or not.
