© Planetlemans - Gabriel Portos // Will these be driven by Wurz and Zonta at Le Mans?
Whilst an official announcement has yet to be made rumours are now rife surrounding both Ricardo Zonta and Alex Wurz signing for Peugeot to compete in this years 24 Heures Du Mans.
Various insiders have stated that it could be only one of the two that gets the drive but some have said that both would compete in the 908 HDi FAP. A minority have even suggested that Wurz’s F1 commitments with Honda could lead to a ‘clash of interests’ and unrest from his new Japanese employers. Our understanding of the latter point however is that Wurz stated his intentions to return to La Sarthe as part of his negotiations with Honda and therefore would be free to compete.
As for Zonta, well, he has admitted that no contract has been signed as of yet but that he will test the car again in a few weeks following his first outing at Paul Ricard in January. If all goes well during that test then he hopes to sign a deal with the French giant and if he get his wish he will double up his commitments this season along with a Grand-Am campaign with Krohn Racing.
Peugeot Sport Team Manager, Serge Saulnier, has however refused to confirm nor deny any of these rumours and will not comment further until the official driver announcement to be held in Paris on the 15th February. So we will wait to see if the rumours are true and that the trend of ex-Formula One drivers returning to Le Mans continues…
