The full Sebring 12 Hours results and statistics

The 2008 edition of the Sebring 12 Hours is over. Team Penske and Flying Lizard Motorsport secured wins for Porsche, so there will be some champagne flowing on Monday in Weissach we suspect. To end our own coverage from Sebring for today we present you the full (provisional) result, the fastest drivers, the caution periods and the leaders.

There are also some statistics that you will not find in the big list below, so we will give them to you straight away.

Penske winning at Sebring means the first non-Audi overall win in years and also the first ever Penske victory at Sebring. The 997 GT3 RSR has now won the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Spa 24 Hours and the Sebring 12 Hours.

Update:
- Second placed Lowe’s Fernandez Racing Acura has been excluded after failing post-race scrutineering.

  1. Never underestimate the power of Porsche.

  2. Well said, Gary! The first sports car race I ever went to was the 1968 Daytona 24 hour endurance race when the three Porsche 907’s lined up to cross the finish line. I was 12 years old at the time and have been a faithful fan ever since. Since then, I consider myself very lucky to have seen in person Porsche 908’s, 917’s, the 917/30, 934’s, 935’s, 962’s, and now the RS Spyder all turn wheels in anger on race tracks such as Sebring, Pocono, Watkins Glen, and Road Atlanta. In all those years I think I saw them not take the top spot on the podium only once, and that was at the 1969 Daytona 24 hours when the 908’s all suffered from the same chasis problem. Porsche’s is a long legacy of victory and engineering excellence!

  3. Romain Dumas must be the big dog in the Porsche camp. At about a bit past halfway in the race, they only subtituted Collard and Timo in the 7 car to save Romain for the night drive and the finish.

Every time they went down to the wire with Audi last year, he was always the driver at the wheel.

  4. It looks like Acura will have a P2 and overall win this year though.

At least Karma played in the hands of the Lizards in GT2. This year the win was a breeze, too bad it wasn’t as memorable as Risi’s win. Nobody might not remember them winning Sebring 2008.

The Ford GT is the best looking GT car on track. That thing is sweet (and aggressive) looking, I can watch it all day. And in the hands of the right driver it has the pace. I want one. If I had the funds I would have Doran build me a GT1 spec version (just to try to get a podium).

  5. Hey,

Got some great footage from inside a Corvette C6 at Sebring. Other highlights from the race too!

  6. Bamba:

Though Romain may in fact be the top dog, I think part of the reason he spent so little time behind the wheel was an injury to his left knee. He was limping notably around the paddock, and must have had some difficulty with getting in and out of the car rapidly.

  7. That might also be true. He did say so himself, I remember.

Yet to be allowed to handle the decisive end stint even while you’re injured means you’re very good.
