After the confirmation of the Pérez Companc GT2 team a few months ago a new GT1 team from Argentina seems to be preparing its participation on the FIA-GT championship, this time apparently with official backing by the Argentinian Automobile Club (ACA). The ACA sponsored historically many Argentinian drivers in Europe like Carlos Reutemann and Juan Manuel Fangio. Talking to Carburando Radio in Uruguay, Argentinian star José María “Pechito” López mentioned he was involved in a new initiative together with TC2000 top driver Martín Basso.
The car would be a Ferrari 550 rented from “a French gentleman” and the idea would be to run nine of the 10 championship races clearly including Potrero de los Funes at the end of the season. López (who is now racing in 2 different series in Argentina) mentioned he could skip some races of the TC series in order to race in Europe but certainly no TC2000 races due to his contract. He additionally mentioned that ex-F1 driver Esteban Tuero could be the third driver of the potentially official ACA team.
Why would they need three drivers in FIA GT except for Spa?
Guess I answered my own question! Who would the French gentleman be? Is it the Solution F car?
Será una gran alegría volver a ver a Pechito López en el plano internacional. Es un piloto que sólo por razones económicas no puede estar compitiendo hoy en la F1. Ha trabajado duro en el Renault de F1 y sin dudas lo hará con esta Ferrari. Suerte Pechito!!!!.
I guess they are entring the “Citation Cup” the 550 is outdated now, and has no chances against factory backed teams from Maserati, Corvette and AMR !
