A brief press release by the ACO today announced the cancellation of the Shanghai race for 2008:

“At the beginning of this year the ACO announced that it was working with its Chinese partner, the S2M Company, to organise the first race in Shanghai under the Le Mans label.

The race, programmed on the Chinese circuit at the end of 2008, has been put off until 2009 as much because of the current world economical environment as the intensive mobilisation of Chinese companies in view of the Olympic year in Beijing.

Nevertheless, the ACO is pressing ahead with the development of its Asian Le Mans Series due to be launched in Japan and China in 2009.”
