VICI Racing and development partner Kumho Tires will skip the next round of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock, Connecticut, next weekend (July 10-12) and instead will return to the series for the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid Ohio one week later (July 17-19).

It’s been a fast moving debut season in ALMS for VICI Racing, with a year-long racing programme which is centred on developing Kumho Tires for the GT2 category. Pre-season, the decision was taken to run the programme in the full glare of the ALMS series and a promising start was immediately made when the team’s new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR ran in the podium positions for over four hours during the opening race, the 12 Hours of Sebring.

During the six week break in ALMS following round 4 at Utah on May 18 the team has been working hard to continue to push forward in all areas and we conducted a tire test at Sebring recently which provided valuable feedback and new development compounds will be available at Mid Ohio. Alongside this the team is making technical progress and the results of this on-going development will be implemented in two weeks time at Mid Ohio during the 2 hour 45 minute race which takes place on one of America’s classic race tracks. The team has also been expanding in all areas as it gears up to an ALMS future and this includes the arrival of new bespoke transporters in recent days.

Ron C. Meixner, Team President VICI Racing says: “While we’re disappointed to not be running in front of our supporters at Lime Rock, we have made a lot of progress during the summer break and it makes the most sense for us to concentrate full on these improvements and look to raise our game further at Mid Ohio when they will be fully in place. The tire test went very well and as a result Kumho are working on new compounds for us. We have always regarded this year as being primarily focused on development and so we expect to be closer to the GT2 pace at Mid Ohio.”

  1. They’re afraid there would be some expensive carbon fiber parts to replace after the race. Since they’re not in the championship hunt no need to bother.

  3. It’s amazing how dominant Michelin is in this type of racing. since Bridgestone beat them in Formula one I wonder if they could give it fits in sports car racing as well.

Chances are they probably have some type of arrangement not to step on each other’s turf.

I don’t like Lime Rock either. they need to ban this track from the schedule. The owners have been raising money for years now and still no improvements. I’m sure there are better tracks willing to host the ALMS. But sometimes it’s not how good you are, but who you know.

  4. Michelin beat Bridgestone in 2005 and 2006 in F1. Bridgestone pulled its North American open wheel effort after Champ Car and the IndyCar Series merged.

Lime Rock Park has seen a big upgrade over the past several weeks of 2008.

Virgo and Dunlop were the 2007 LMS GT2 champs and they are beating their rivals again in 2008.
