FIA GT Championship

Prospeed and Trackspeed excluded from Adria (UPDATE)

After being under investigation since the Adria round the FIA today confirmed that all three Porsches entered in the FIA GT Championship round at Adria were excluded from the results. A homologation issue meant that the Trackspeed Porsche number 59 and the Prospeed Competition Porsches numbers 60 and 61 were found to be ‘illegal’ and therefore excluded.

The non-compliant parts that were used on the Porsches in the third round of the championship, two weeks ago, were homologated in the mean time.

As a result of the decision the points scored by Richard Westbrook and Emmanuel Collard have been taken away from them.

The following Stewards decision was confirmed today at 12:38. This is is the Steward Decision regarding the Prospeed cars, the Trackspeed is almost similar.

The Stewards have received a further report from the Technical Delegate following their decision No. 20 made in Adria (Italy) on 26th, June 2008.

The CSAI National Steward Carlo Bellentani has mandated in writing to the FIA his powers in this matter to Paul Gutjahr, Switzerland, and he sits in the further hearing now being held at Oschersleben Motorsport Arena.

The team manager again confirmed that he spoke and understood English and agreed again for both cases to be heard together.

The Stewards heard from the team manager of the affected cars No 60 and 61. After the hearing from the Technical Delegate and reading his report No. 09.

After due consideration of all the evidence the Stewards are satisfied, that the two cars concerned did not comply for what ever reason with the then current (on the 21st June 2008) homologation form for all the cars. Although this none compliance did not appear to be the fault of the two teams concerned the Stewards are left with no alternative but to exclude the two vehicles from the results of the race at Adria (Rd 3) which was part of the FIA GT Championship 2008 (Art. 257 - 10A).

The team is advised of its right to appeal under the I.S.C.

The Stewards decision mentioned a report No. 09. Here is the transcript of that report:

Following the facts previously reported during the Adria event, in which some suspension elements found in the Porsche cars numbers 59, 60 and 61 are not in compliance with the homologation form (as required by Article 257 - 10.4) the FIA Technical Department has received documentation from Porsche AG to clarify the matter.

In these documents changes in the suspension arms between 2007 and 2008 racing versions of the car are observed, and both of them are different of those featuring in the original homologation form.

As permitted by GT2 Homologation Regulation, the FIA Technical Department is currently proceeding with the homologation of the components concerned as per date of 1st of July 2008.

(30.06.2008 - 15.00h)

UPDATE: At 17:45 the FIA announced that Prospeed Competition has appealed this decision and the Adria results remain provisional pending appeal of decision 24 of the Stewards.

  1. why would you do that? Why would you go out of your way to penalise half of the class’ manufacturers because of a part that you then said is fine? Stupid decision that will only put competitors off in my opinion.

  2. Is there any information as to what parts on the Porsche’s were not homologated? It would seem odd that the current spec 997 GT3RSRs have run two previous races in FIA GT without issues along with numerious races in LMS and ALMS.
