Karl Wendlinger was quickest in the Pre-Qualifying session on a warm Oschersleben circuit. Despite some black clouds around the track the sun was shining bright and the temperatures went up as the session got underway. The red flags came out twice this session, with the second one finishing the session. By that time Wendlinger’s Aston Martin had already clocked a 1:24.569.
The GT1 cars, with the exception of the AT-Racing Corvette C5-R, were all together, the gap just 2.122 seconds between the number 33 Jetalliance Racing Aston Martin and the twelfth placed JMB Racing Maserati MC12. Phoenix Carsport took second place, the Mike Hezemans and Fabrizio Gollin drive C6.R was nearly six tenths of a second behind the Austrian DBR9 though. Sharp and Lichtner-Hoyer Jetalliance DBR9 managed to take third place, six tenths behind their team mates. A surprisingly quick Ferrari 550 Maranello, driven this weekend by Martin Basso and José Maria Lopez, improved from ninth in the first session to sixth in pre-qualifying.
Ferrari kept its lead in GT2 as once again the Italian cars claimed the first four places. This time it was the number 50 AF Corse 430 GT2 of Toni Vilander and Gianmaria Bruni that set the fastest lap time of the session, a 1:28.621. Team mates Thomas Biagi and Christian Montanari were second fastest, almost four tenths behind the lead car. The Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari was third fastest three tenths of a second behin the Vilander/Bruni AF Corse Ferrari.
After being first and fourth in the free practice session CR Scuderia had a rather less pre-qualfying session. Instead of being at the top again the number 55 car ended the session in tenth place. The number 56 of Andrew Kirkaldy and Rob Bell was eighth fastest but as the session was about to end the car went off and brought out the red flag.
