As the clock showed 9 o’clock in the morning the light at the end of the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben pit lane went green and twenty-eight GT cars went out on the track for the free practice session. IPB Spartak Reiter Engineering and the iPOS Racing withdrew their entries prior to the event. The session, run under a partly clouded sky, eventually saw the SRT Corvette on top of the timing sheets.

After running all of the FIA GT3 cars in an equalisation test around the circuit yesterday it looked like Christophe Bouchut knew the best lines and literally trashed the opposition. The Selleslagh Racing Team Corvette set its fastest lap in 1:23.793. The rest of the field was way behind. Jetalliance’s Karl Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp were best of the rest with a lap time of 1:24.688, nearly nine tenths of a second slower than the Corvette. Behind them the two Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati MC12s took third and fourth, at 0.939 and 1.042 seconds from the fastest time.

In GT2 it was Ferrari that took control and the gap between the different cars was very small. CR Scuderia’s Tim Mullen and Chris Niarchos led the Italian train, their Ferrari 430 GT2 lapped the track in 1:28.883. AF Corse took second and third fastest time in this session, the Toni Vilander/Gianmaria Bruni car taking second in a time of 1:28.901 with the Thomas Biagi/Christiain Montanari stoppin the clocks on 1:28.943. CR Scuderia completed the top four with Andrew Kirkaldy/Rob Bell setting a 1:28.954.

Down in G2 the best of the three cars was the GTO Charouz Racing Mosler MT 900 of Adam Lacko and Jiri Jirasek. The number 103 Mosler set a 1:31.674 and was twenty-fourth overall.
