The second grid of the 2008 Le Mans Classic included the first post-war period with cars going from 1949 to 1956. It was a period with big names coming to the Le Mans : Jaguar, Mercedes, Maserati, Ferrari, Porsche…. but it was also a period which was marked by the 1955 tragedy.
In the case of Porsche each grid had a car of the German brand with number 60 on it to commemorate its 60 years in racing but we could also enjoy the unique 300SL Mercedes, the C- and D-Type Jaguars and some of the classic Maseratis of the period together with Astons, a battery of Lancias and Austin Healeys and some rarities like a 1949 Skoda or a DB Citroen from 1945.
Mixed among the powerful Italian and British giants we also saw some early Lotus and the sheer beauty of the Porsche 550s, two of them driven by Dutch Le Mans winners Gijs van Lennep and Jan Lammers. The overall classification after the 3 races can be found at the official site
