The second qualifying session did not bring any changes to the provisional pole position of the Jetalliance Racing Team Aston Martin. Even though the team was not the fastest in Q2 the lap times were much slower than in the first session.

A delayed start meant that at 22:20 local time at Spa-Francorchamps the second qualifying session for the Total 24 Hours of Spa got underway. 41 cars took to the track, the cars that were damaged in the first qualifying session did not go out, the Kessel Racing Ferrari did however rejoin.

At the half way point of the session the two Vitaphone Racing Maserati MC12s were quickest, still several seconds away from the provisional pole time though. The #6 Phoenix Racing Corvette was third fastest, despite a small detour by Deletraz after just over half an hour.

Five minutes later Alex Müller was the first to go below 2:19 in this session and he put the Jetalliance Racing Aston Martin DBR9 on the top spot again. His 2:18.681 was four tenths of a second quicker than the number 2 Vitaphone Racing Maserati and six tenths quicker than the number 1 Maserati.

The time would not last though as Marcel Fässler went just a bit quicker as he lapped the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in 2:18.657. His lap time was not beaten in the remaining time and as the chequered flag came out at 23:50 the Phoenix Carsport car was still fastest.
Second quickest was the Jetalliance Aston Martin while the number 2 Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati MC12 was third fastest.

In GT2 it was the BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari that was quickest this time in 2:25.465, also around four seconds slower than the fastest GT2 times in the first session. The CR Scuderia Ferrari number 56 was second fastest, while the number 51 AF Corse Ferrari completed the top three.

We’ll be back tomorrow for the third qualifying session…
