There was good and bad news during the warm up session today. Good things were the weather, as the sun was still shining brightly, and the return of the Selleslagh Racing Team Corvette after its crash in the first qualifying session. Unfortunately at the very end of the session the Larbre Saleen went off heavily at Eau Rouge.
The twenty minute session saw thirty-two cars in action on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, with several others opting not to go out and safe the car for the race. The Jetalliance Racing Aston Martin DBR9 did six laps this session, its fastest lap time of 2:18.863 enough for P1.
As the session was coming to an end Steve Zacchia was still lapping fast in the Larbre Competition Saleen. Coming into Eau Rouge the Swiss driver lost control of the S7R and smashed it into the wall. The impact ripped of the left rear of the car, literally destroying any hopes for a win. Zacchia was taken to the medical centre but was okay.
The Formula’Academy race that was supposed to start shortly after the FIA GT warm up has been delayed as the barriers at the scene of the accident needs a lot of work.
Ironically the other Saleen in the field, the PK Racing entry, was second fastest in the session with the Gigawave Aston Martin in third place.
In GT2 the two Prospeed Porsches were quickest with the #51 AF Corse Ferrari in third.
It has been confirmed on the FIA GT Website that the #7 Larbre Saleen has been withdrawn from the race.
Tom.
First Larbre pulls out of LMS and now this? They are running the 550 Maranello in FIA GT, too. Was it Zacchia’s fault?
