It was a disappointing day on the streets of Belle Isle Raceway as a mechanical failure removed the #15 Lowe’s Acura ARX from contention in the Detroit Sports Car Challenge presented by Bosch. Fernandez and Diaz crossed the finish line ninth in class and 24th overall. The checkered flag brought the first one-two-three finish for Acura with the #26 car of Andretti Green Racing’s Franck Montagny and James Rossiter claiming the top spot.
There was disappointment for VICI Racing at a hot and sunny Detroit this afternoon as the #18 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR suffered a broken driveshaft after 41 minutes of the race; however it wasn’t before the team had been able to demonstrate a major step forward in competiveness and we can take away a lot of positives from this performance. The season-long tire development program carried out with Kumho Tires has made huge strides, and today Marc Basseng, who was the starting driver for the race was able to run consistently around 1 to 1.5 seconds off the front running pace in the GT2 class.
The action continues at the Belle Isle circuit as we pass half race point and the battles are (as usual) very close. Acura seems to dominate but Audi and porsche are still pretty close while in GT2 tactics will decide this one. Porsche , Ferrari and even Panoz could win it!!
Sunshine in Detroit after a wet and changing Friday. The teams have had little time to really get the best out of their dry setups so the 25 minute long warm-up (led 1-2 by the Penske Porsches) saw quite some work for teams and drivers to get ready for showtime. And showtime is approaching quicly so stay with us for our minute-by-minute coverage of the last street course of the season on the American le Mans Series!
Patrón Highcroft Racing took its second overall American Le Mans Series pole position of the season at round nine, the Detroit Sportscar Challenge presented by Bosch at Belle Isle, on the day that Acura announced it will enter the LMP1 class in 2009. As one of two chosen teams, Patrón Highcroft Racing will compete in LMP1 with its current driver line-up of Scott Sharp and David Brabham, who secured the team’s Detroit pole position with a time of 1:13.483[...]
Dyson Racing posted the fastest Porsche LMP2 qualifying time this afternoon for the American Le Mans Detroit Sports Car Challenge. Guy Smith qualified the #16 Porsche RS Spyder seven tenths of a second off the pole in the first session of the day run in the dry[...]
Like last year, the Audi drivers are facing an extremely difficult task in the race of the American Le Mans Series on the “Belle Isle Street Circuit” in Detroit (U.S. state of Michigan). Team Audi Sport North America’s pair of Audi R10 TDI prototypes will start Saturday’s race from the fourth and fifth row of the grid on the bumpy city street circuit[...]
Wolf Henzler put the Flying Lizard No. 45 Porsche on the GT2 pole for Saturday’s Detroit Sports Car Challenge, with a lap time of 1:24.941. In the No. 46 Porsche, teammate Patrick Pilet was fourth, and in the No. 44 Martin Ragginger was seventh[...]
Qualifying for the American Le Mans Series GT2 class is always a contest of tenths of a second. However, today’s 20-minute qualifying session for Saturday’s Detroit Sports Car Challenge set a new standard with a three-way battle and less than three-tenths of a second to determine the class pole winner[...]
A more careful, cautious approach was called for today by VICI Racing at the Belle Isle street circuit in Detroit; rapidly changing weather conditions, coupled to a car that has just been rapidly rebuilt since last Sunday’s accident at Mosport and which was slightly down on power, meant that the team had to be satisfied with Marc Basseng’s best qualifying lap of 1:28.075, which will place the car onto the fifth row of the grid for tomorrow’s Detroit Sports Car Challenge[...]
