Andrea Bertolini, currently leading the GT1 points with Michael Bartels, was in Monza last week for the presentation of the new Maserati Gran Turismo MC Concept car. The 2006 Champion drove the new car, which was first presented at the Geneva motor show.
The car is a sporty version of the Maserati Granturismo S. Changes for the racing model include improved performance and aerodynamic efficiency, with two large air intakes at the front, designed to increase the air flow to the brakes, and an aerodynamic bottom profile. There are also new front mudguards and an engine hood with dynamic air inlets and two additional air vents. The car’s profile has also been the subject of in-depth aerodynamic analysis. It also has a new larger rear spoiler to increase the downforce and to compensate the aerodynamic effect of the front splitter.
The engine has been revised to futher increase performance without impairing reliability, generating 330.9 kw (450 bhp) with torque of 510 Nm at 4750 rpm.
While there are no definite plans for the GranTurismo MC Concept as yet, the car could be eligible in GT4 with minor modifications, while some private teams are interested in developing the car for GT3.
