Dutch GT4 Championship – Zandvoort Test

As we reported yesterday the Dutch GT4 Championship was testing today at the Zandvoort circuit. Three teams were on duty and lapped the 2.6 miles long circuit with their cars as the series tested several different tyres. A decision on which tyre will be used will be made later.

Paul van Splunteren was at Zandvoort with the Porsche 911 (997) GT3. It was the first time this car was tested with its GT4-racekit. Designed by GT3.nl, the motorsport department of Porsche Centrum Eindhoven, the kit makes the Porsche eligible for the GT4 championships. The car was run by Equipe Verschuur.

Madeno Racing’s Mikko Heino was also taking part in his Aston Martin N24. Allard Kalff drove the Tachyon Motorsport Ford Mustang FR500C. Unfortunately the Mustang went off at the sweeping Scheivlak corner. Just before entering the fast corner the front suspension on the Mustang snapped and Kalff went straigth. While the car looked rather undamaged from the outside the car was taken back to the pit lane on a flat-bed transporter.

One car was missing today. G&A Racing had planned to run its BMW Z4 for Guino Kenis today but en-route from Nogaro the truck transporting the BMW broke down, making it impossible for the Belgian driver to take part in the test.

Pirelli and Michelin were at Zandvoort to supply the tyres to the teams as both tyre manufacturers are still in the race for winning the contract to become the exclusive tyre supplier for the Dutch GT4 Championship. It could be interesting to know that Pirelli is already the supplier for the GT4 European Cup.

Here are some of the pictures our photographer Vincent van Kempen shot at Zandvoort today…
