Having started today’s race at ninth on the grid, after testing another set of Pirelli development tyres during yesterday’s qualifying session, the team secured another valuable point after an incident packed race at Zolder today.
The team decided to run with this latest edition of Pirelli tyres and during the race car ‘62’ steadily climbed to second place and was looking good for a top podium finish, before an incident involving Emmanuel Collard and Jamie Davies resulted in a drive-through penalty being awarded against the team. The ‘61’ Pro Speed Porsche tried to go round the outside of a faster GT1 car thereby forcing Jamie Davies to brake unexpectedly; resulting in a spin for both cars.
Excessive damage sustained by the car during this incident forced Fabio Babini to cut short his second stint behind the wheel. After having seen the car return to the pit twice in quick succession, Team Principal Stewart Roden made the difficult call not to send the car back out and risk incurring even more damage in the final seventeen minutes of race.
Immediately after the race Stewart Roden said, “We had a super quick car today and to see number 62 running as high as second place was fantastic and is a credit to all the hard work by our team and the Pirelli development programme. We look forward to building on this performance as we head into the final round of this year’s Championship in Argentina next month”.
This is a very interesting way to put it… Did anyone see that crash? Davies clearly lost it and hit Collard in the rear forcing both to spin off! I would appreciate them to stand up and admit the mistake that dropped the Porsche from its 2nd place. Otherwise, it was a great performance from the #62. Well done for all Pirelli shod Ferraris.
