Having confirmed their participation in the 2009 Le Mans Series and with one LMP2 Lola B08/80 and one LMP1 Lola B08/60 last month Speedy Racing-Team Sebah has revealed the driver line-ups for the two prototypes.
Speedy Racing owner Alexandre Pesci was able to reveal an interesting and very experienced line-up for his two cars. The LMP1 Lola B08/60 will be driven by Andrea Belicchi , Marcel Fässler and Nicolas Prost. In the LMP2 Lola B08/80 Xavier Pompidou and Benjamin Leuenberger will be joined by Jonny Kane.
While Belicchi, Pompidou, Leuenberger and Kane raced with Speedy Racing before, either in the Lola or in a Spyker, Marcel Fässler and Nicolas Prost are completely new to the team.
Fässler however has loads of experience from his FIA GT seasons with the Phoenix Carsport team as well as his races in the Le Mans Series and at Le Mans with Swiss Spirit (Courage LC70 and Lola B07/18) and two races in the American Le Mans Series with the Audi R10 TDI.
Nicolas Prost is the least experienced sportscar driver of the six. The French driver only competed in GT1 cars so far. His most recent experience was with Team Oreca in 2007 when he took part in the Le Mans 24 Hours in the Oreca Saleen S7R.
Alexandre Pesci also confirmed the Speedy Racing Spyker GT2 programme will not be continued in 2009 as the team will concentrate on its LMP programme this year. As the cooperation between the Dutch manufacturer and the Swiss team worked out quite well, a return to GT racing with Spyker has not been ruled out however. Pesci confirmed he would follow the development of a brand new Spyker race car – based on the new GT regulations – and that given the right circumstances he could be running a Spyker again in the (near) future.
So, has Prost given up on the idea of racing single seaters? Strange move for someone who’s name could help open doors.
A famous name is not always enough..
Why not have Xavier Pompidou race the LMP1 Lola B08/60 Aston Martin? Are there three drivers per Lola due to the extra sponsorship brought by the drivers?
