You mean 2011. It was supposed to be all closed cars, but apparently no one wanted to make Audi mad.

You don’t think Acura, Audi, Zytek and Oreca will also come out with new open coupes if they had to be replaced in a year do you.

Lola was getting ready to become the prime supplier of closed cars to all. But then it was announced that open cars will also be allowed (the Audi effect), that allowed Zytek to get in on the action too.

Both types of cars are allowed. Lola just has a fancy for closed prototypes at this time.

Why not allow both closed and open cockpits? Did closed cars ruin the IMSA Camel GT series? The smaller 2009 LMP wings drive up costs. OAK Racing will have Dunlop tires on their Pescarolos in LMP2 while RML will have Michelins.

Unfortunately for them OAK Racing has a 2 car lineup and Mazda backing. So they might just be a “B” team.

But perhaps Mike Newton’s deep pockets and their vast experience will have something to say about that.

yea i agree with RMP the open cars are much better looking and should stay with the addition of some coupes

The closed cars look rubbish, we were stuck with them for so long in group C it ruined sports car racing for years and the same will happen with these new closed prototypes. The best looking cars were the single hoop designs from 1991, the Courage C65 and MG EX257 was the best looking prototypes of all time.
