The Le Mans Series keeps getting good news. After earlier announcements by Larbre Competition that they would return with their Saleen S7R and the announcement earlier today that Team ECOSpeed will enter a Dome S102 there was more GT news as well!
First of all is the suprise return of Luc Alphand Aventures. After winning the title in 2008 the team announced its plans to compete in the FIA GT Championship in 2009 with at least one car. But as of today the French squad is a Le Mans Series runner again.
Luc Alphand, Patrice Goueslard and a third driver to be confirmed will be racing the entire 2009 Le Mans Series season, starting at the 1000km of Barcelona in April. With the addition of the Corvette to the list the GT1 category now has Ferrari, Corvette, Saleen and Lamborghini battling for the championship. Interesting to see though is the inclusion of Goueslard, who was linked to a Larbre seat on Friday!
In the GT2 category there was also some breaking news at the end of last week. Sean and Michael McInerney will be joined by Dutchman Michael Vergers in the Virgo Motorsport Ferrari 430 GT2.
The Dutchman who raced in Juan Barazi’s Zytek LMP2 car in the last couple of seasons confirmed his switch to the GT2 Championship winning team. Vergers will be part of the squad at Paul Ricard HTTT for the official Le Mans Series test session on March 8 & 9.
GT1 has lost Team Modena (with Ferrari now in GT2) and Strakka Racing (Ginetta-Zytek in LMP1) but gained 3 Saleens and one Ferrari vs 2008. Plus, Pirelli is back in GT1.
Good news indeed!
yes does any one know who will drive for Pescarolo this year
also there was rumore of pescarolo racing two 908 Peugeot???
Glad to see new Saleens coming back. I am sure that Larbre will use its machine from last year. Do not know where other teams get there Saleen S7-Rs? Does Oreca continue to build new chassis? or just used machines from other teams like PK. With rumors that Chrysler is going to put its Chrysler Viper brand for sale, Oreca may not have a lot of interest to support the Chrysler Viper GT3 initiative and there LMP1 effort is a tough road in front. Hopefully the last year of Saleen S7-R will shine.
