Gigawave MotorSport and NISMO (Nissan Motorsports) have confirmed the entry of a Nissan GT-R in 2010 GT1 spec in selected rounds of the 2009 FIA GT Championship. The British team will run the brand new car as a non-championship entry in four rounds of the the championship.

Aston Martin factory driver Darren Turner and NISMO driver Michael Krumm are set to drive the GT-R in the FIA GT Championship. NISMO will enter the series in order to check the performance of the cars to be sold to racing teams competing in FIA GT1. The car is already fully built to the specifications as proposed for the new FIA GT1 World Championship as planned by SRO boss Stephane Ratel in 2010.

The GT1 programme marks the return of Nissan to European sportscar racing after pulling out in 1999. Its previous programme, the Nissan R390 GT1 raced at Le Mans in 1997 and 1998, taking a third place overall in 1998. In December we already reported about the car had been going through extensive testing in Japan.

At this time it is not known if Gigawave MotorSport will race the Aston Martin DBR9 in the FIA GT Championship. The only confirmed outing for this car is the Le Mans 24 Hours.

More details about the car and the scheduled races will be announced at a later date.
