Four minutes into the second hour of the 12 Hours of Sebring Allan McNish regained the overall lead as he passed Lamy heading into turn 17. On the Ulmann Straight McNish got a nice tow and used the presence of the GT2 Viper to get ahead of the Peugeot.
With the focus on the battle for P1 it almost went unnoticed that Mike Rockenfeller kept posting faster lap times than the guys ahead of him was slowly catching up and after an hour and fifteen minutes Rockenfeller was right on the tail of Lamy’s Peugeot.
The battle between the two diesels kept on running for a couple of laps when all of a sudden the #07 seemed to lose momentum for only a split second, allowing Rockenfeller to pass as the two cars got onto the Ulmann Straight.
Just before completing an hour and a half of racing the first full course caution was a fact and the safety car was deployed when the Patrón Highcroft Racing Acura ARX-02a and Robertson Racing Ford GT got together at turn 17. Brabham spun the LMP1 Acura and Andrea Robertson had nowhere to go than into the wall. Both cars returned to the pit lane, with the Acura almost instantly released again. The Robertson Racing team started the repairs on their car.
The pit lane reopened after exacly 1 hour and 30 minutes had been completed and both R15s, the Peugeot #08, the #66 Acura as well as the Dyson Lola #16 immediately went in to do their stops and driver changes.
On the restart some 17 minutes later the four diesels all tried to get into turn 1 as the lead car, but it was the #07 of Minassian that was leading heading towards turn 3. Behind him Sarrazin was pushing behind Capello, with Marco Werner losing some time.
In GT2 problems for the BMW continued as the #90 returned to the pit stop. The car was checked. Farnbacher Loles Racing also got its Porsche in and the engineers instantly started checking the wheels and suspension. The lengthy pit stop dropped the car that started from pole down the order.
Eight minutes before the end of the second hour Marco Werner in the #1 Audi R15 clipped the #28 LG Motorsports Corvette, sending the Audi backwards into the grass. Werner returned to the track without losing a position though.
