Italian Thomas Biagi (FIA GT 2007 Champion) has officially signed with Corvette Motorsports Team Luc Alphand Aventures for the remaining rounds of the FIA GT Championship. At the age of 33, Thomas Biaggi (who also test drove in F1 several times) will replace Guillaume Moreau and will sit alongside Dutch driver Xavier Maassen.
The choice of Thomas, came from Philippe Poincloux at the team. He had a difficult time narrowing the right candidates to replace Moreau, but is quite happy with his choice. “I am delighted to welcome Thomas into our team, a world champion. I am anxious to see him at work in Le Mans andfrom the Oschersleben 20 & 21 June. His vast experience in the field will undoubtedly be of great value to themselves in this highly competitive championship.” said Philippe Poincloux.
This year, during the first rounds FIA GT, Thomas Biagi teamed with Thomas Mutsch driving the Ford GT # 44 of the team Matech. The car is still under development (8th and 19th in England in Adria) as prefiguring cars within the 2010 regulations, the Italian pilot decided to join the team. He will take charge of the C6-R Corvette No. 19 after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he is competing with the Italian Racing Box teams LMP2.
Thomas Biagi hopes to continue the excellent start to the season in the FIA GT Team (3rd and 4th at Silverstone Adria) with Xavier Maassen. Xavier was equally as excited to join up with Thomas.
“I am extremely happy with the arrival of Thomas. Since the breach of contract by Guillaume we were in a delicate situation, it is difficult to find a quality driver available during the season. But fortunately, in the presence of Thomas we have found an excellent driver, and we could hardly expect better … He still was twice world champion FIA GT. This solution is ideal for everyone: for the LAA Team who can continue the season under optimal conditions, Thomas, who wanted to use a competitive GT1 and my hopes to score the maximum amount of points this season. I know Thomas from the Bucharest race of last year following a clash in GT2!
I was in 4th position at the controls of the SRT C6.R in battle with the Maserati MC 12, when I hit the back of the GT2 Thomas …Obviously, at the end of the race I went to apologize, I discovered today that he is not spiteful or mad! One thing is certain, Thomas has not joined the LAA Team just to fill a void or gap…he clearly explained that he is here to win!” concluded Xavier Maassen.
Thomas will make his debut for Corvette Motorsport at Oschersleben in Germany, one week after the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Wasn’t Biagi lined up for two other GT1 rides in FIA GT? He has been good in Racing Box’s Lola B08/80 Judd.
Yea he was racing with Matech GT Racing, with the new Ford GT.
He was Ferrari/Maserati guy. But I guess when you win races and championships, and another team makes an that offer, and lots of it $$$. It’s hard to say no….
Guillaume Moreau is a really good driver himself. Dont know what went wrong…
I thought Guillaume Moreau wanted desperatly to drive a prototype at LM this year. He is listed on the OAK P2 car for this years LM and maybe because of that LAA opted to kick him out alltogether. They invested a lot in him last year with the Formula Renault (if im correct) and he still wanted to leave the team…
According to a source nearby Biagi ( and someone i trust 100% ), i can tell that Biagi has been dropped by Ferrari/Maserati. Don’t know why. Just like Westbrook has been dropped as an official Porsche driver. Two very good GT-drivers who were sacked, even they proved to be very competitive. Searching for a drive, Biagi has been asked to bring in sponsorship. In his case, he couldn’t find enough money, that’s why he took the Matech-offer. Fortunately, he can go for victory from now on ( i suppose that Luc Alphand didn’t need a big amount of money ).
Richard Westbrook is racing a 911 with ProSpeed Competition in FIA GT this year.
Guillaume Moreau raced in the non-spec Formula 3 series in 2006, the World Series by Renualt in 2007 and 2008 with the KTR team, Courage Competition in LMP1 in 2007, and LAA in LMS last year.
