Good news for Team Felbermayr Proton just ahead of the Le Mans 24 Hours. After being excluded from the Le Mans Series 1000KM of Spa and therefore losing the win the German team appealed the decision by the race organisers. This weekend the RACB communicated its verdict on the matter to the team.
On Friday (June 5th) Christian Ried, Team Principal of Team Felbermayr Proton, was able to tell the good news to Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz and Horst Felbermayr Sr after receiving the word from the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium’s National Court of Appeal that they had overturned the stewards decisions and handed back the win to the #77 Porsche 997 GT3 RSR.
As a result the “Case Felbermayr-Proton”, as the National Court of Appeal called it, can be closed and the results of the second round of the 2009 Le Mans Series season can be confirmed.
Justice. I actually witnessed the part flying of from the car and it was to no danger for any of the other contenders, nore was it a problem/danger to the Felbermayer car itself.
Now on to victory in class at Le Mans!
Many GT2 teams at Le Mans need to modify (close) the wheel arches - any idea if this is related to the Spa outcome?
