Le Mans Series return for Chris Buncombe!

One month after winning the Group C race at the Silverstone Classic in a Jaguar XJR 9 and just over two years after winning the LMP2 class at the Le Mans 24 Hours 30-year-old Chris Buncombe will make his return to the Le Mans Series…and what a return it will be.

The British driver will be back in action at the Nürburgring this weekend in the fourth round of the 2009 Le Mans Series. Buncombe will join fellow Briton Stuart Hall and Portuguese Miguel Ramos in the #008 Aston Martin Racing Lola Aston Martin.

Chris Buncombe is very excited about the prospect of racing in the Le Mans Series with the Lola Aston Martin. “I’m really pleased to be back in the Le Mans Series having not driven in it since the end of 2007 season when I raced the Lola LMP2 car”, says Chris. “To return to the series with such a prestigious brand as Aston Martin is a dream come true.”

Chris is also very clear on his sportscar plans for the future. “It’s my aim for 2010 to be in a full time LMP1 seat and of course to return to Le Mans following my LMP2 class win there in 2007.”

After selected races in the Speedcar Series, a run in the 2009 Dubai 24 Hours as well as some Group C races in Jaguar XJR9 and XJR11s, Chris is happy with the opportunity to race in the final two Le Mans Series rounds of the 2009 season.

“This deal came about very much last minute so I will be heading to the Nurburgring this weekend having not tested the car, however it will be good to learn the car and to work with all the great people at Prodrive/Aston Martin Racing.”

Chris had his seat-fitting in the Lola Aston Martin yesterday as well as a very short shakedown in the car today on the MIRA proving ground. His first real (testing) action with the car will take place this weekend in Germany.
