It was with great regret that SRO was informed today that the Dubai Autodrome will not be hosting the final round of the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship, originally scheduled to take place from November 12th – 14th.
Despite the long-standing relationship between SRO and the Dubai Autodrome, where five rounds of the FIA GT Championship and FIA GT3 European Championship have taken place since 2004, it has proven impossible to maintain the event for 2009.
“I would like to thank everyone at the Dubai Autodrome for their hard work and I hope we will be able to return there in the near future,” commented Stephane Ratel, chairman of SRO, promoter of the FIA GT3 European Championship.
SRO is now working with Circuit Zolder on the inclusion of the FIA GT3 European Championship finale in the FIA GT Championship meeting, to be held at the Belgian circuit on October 23rd – 25th.
This replacement round will be confirmed by the FIA shortly.
Statement Released by Dubai Autodrome Management on Tuesday 1 September 2009
Dubai Autodrome management today announced that they will not be hosting the final round of the FIA GT3 European Championship which was scheduled to be held on 12 – 14 November 2009. Dubai Autodrome wish to thank the FIA, ATCUAE, SRO the organizers of the FIA GT Championship and teams for their support and understanding of these circumstances. We look forward to welcoming them back in years to come, for the event which has been a mainstay of the Dubai motorsport calendar.
Hmmm, well at least the teams will save travel money. Guess there wasn’t much interest from people in Dubai.
Now if I just get somebody to record the series (FIA) on a regular basis again…
Bad news!!! Dubai Autodrome it´s perfect for GT3 racing specially for a final round.
I´m sure there´s some other nice race way for the event, better not so far as Dubai!
