FIA GT Zolder - Free Practice Result

The final race weekend of the 2009 FIA GT Championship at the Zolder circuit in Belgium got off to a wet start this morning during the free practice session. Clouded skies and a wet track meant the times set by the teams in this session were way off the regular pace.

All 21 cars that went through scrutineering took part in the opening session; the two KplusK Saleens as well as the Full Speed Racing Saleen have been withdrawn for the weekend.

After eighty minutes of driving in the wet conditions it was the Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati MC12 of Miguel Ramos and Alex Müller that was quickest in 1:43.717. Alvaro Barba Lopez and Niki Cadei in the #51 AF Corse Ferrari F430 GT2 were second overall, just 0.230 seconds behind the GT1 Maserati. The #1 Maserati MC12 of Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini was third fastest, one tenth of a second behind the Ferrari.

Best of the Corvettes was the C6.R of Enrique Bernoldi and Roberto Streit in fifth place. The best Porsche was the Brixia Racing car of Collard and Ragginger in 13th overall.
