24 Hours of Le Mans

The 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours preselections

Seven months before the Le Mans 24 Hours the Automobile Club de l’Ouest has unveiled the automatically invited entrants for the 2010 event. Twenty-nine cars are now invited for the big race; 7 LMP1s, 7 LMP2s, 6 GT1s and 9 GT2s. The teams that are invited now will still have to confirm their intention to race at Le Mans.

In the LMP1 class the top two from Le Mans, the Le Mans Series as well as the winners of the American Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series and Petit Le Mans are given an automatic entry into Le Mans. For the first time in many years Audi does not have an automatic invite for Le Mans. Due to not taking part in the ALMS and LMS season and Peugeot winning both Le Mans and Petit Le Mans the German manufacturer will have to apply for an entry and wait for the ACO to decide if they can take part (and with what number of cars).

The invited teams in LMP1:

Peugeot Sport Total (Peugeot 908 HDi FAP) - 1st Le Mans 24 Hours 2009
Team Peugeot Total (Peugeot 908 HDi FAP) - 2nd Le Mans 24 Hours 2009
Aston Martin Racing (Lola Aston Martin) - 1st Le Mans Series 2009
Pescarolo Sport (Pescarolo 01 Judd) - 2nd Le Mans Series 2009
Patrón Highcroft Racing (Acura ARX-02a) - 1st American Le Mans Series 2009
Sora Racing (Pescarolo 01 Judd) - 1st Asian Le Mans Series 2009
Team Peugeot Total (Peugeot 908 HDi FAP) - 1st Petit Le Mans 2009

In LMP2 the winner of Petit Le Mans 2009 is not invited. The Dyson Racing Lola Mazda that won the race was not running in ACO 2009-spec and is therefore not invited. It is interesting though to see the Lowe’s Fernandez Racing Acura ARX-01b is invited as this team closed doors at the end of the 2009 season and was running the full American Le Mans Series season with a non-ACO spec rear wing as well (cf. ALMS regulations).
Speedy Racing Team Sebah has been given three automatic entries for its second place at Le Mans and in the Le Mans Series as well as winning the Michelin Green X Challenge.

The invited teams in LMP2:

Team Essex (Porsche RS Spyder) - 1st Le Mans 24 Hours 2009
Speedy Racing Sebah (Lola Judd) - 2nd Le Mans 24 Hours 2009
Quifel ASM Team (Ginetta-Zytek) - 1st Le Mans Series 2009
Speedy Racing Team Sebah (Lola Judd) - 2nd Le Mans Series 2009
OAK Racing (Lola Mazda) - 1st Asian Le Mans Series 2009
Lowe’s Fernández Racing (Acura ARX-01b) - 1st American Le Mans Series 2009
Speedy Racing Team Sebah (Lola Judd) - 1st Michelin Green X Challenge 2009

In GT1 there are six automatic invites. Since Corvette Racing only raced in a couple of ALMS GT1 races there will be no automatic entry for the American Le Mans Series winner. There was no GT1 class at Petit Le Mans either. Larbre Competition finished second in the Le Mans Series, but the French squad will not get an automatic entry as they did not race the full season - they missed the second round at Spa. The Asian Le Mans Series winner and FIA GT1 first and second placed cars are also invited.

The invited teams in LMGT1:

Corvette Racing (Corvette C6.R) - 1st Le Mans 24 Hours 2009
Luc Alphand Aventures (Corvette C6.R) - 2nd Le Mans 24 Hours 2009
Luc Alphand Aventures (Corvette C6.R) - 1st Le Mans Series 2009
JLOC (Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT) - 1st Asian Le Mans Series 2009
Vitaphone Racing Team (Maserati MC12) - 1st FIA GT 2009
PK Carsport (Corvette C6.R) - 2nd FIA GT 2009

And finally GT2. Nine cteams have been given an automatic entry. The top two of Le Mans, the Le Mans Series and the FIA GT Championship willbe joined by the winners of the American Le Mans Series, the Asian Le Mans Series and Petit Le Mans.

The invited teams in LMGT2:

Risi Competizione (Ferrari F430 GT2) - 1st Le Mans 24 Hours 2009
BMS Scuderia Italia (Ferrari F430 GT2) - 2nd Le Mans 24 Hours 2009
Team Felbermayr-Proton (Porsche 997 GT3 RSR) - 1st Le Mans Series 2009
JMW Motorsport (Ferrari F430 GT2) - 2nd Le Mans Series 2009
Flying Lizard Motorsports (Porsche 997 GT3 RSR) - 1st American Le Mans Series 2009
Hankook Team Farnbacher (Ferrari F430 GT2) - 1st Asian Le Mans Series 2009
AF Corse (Ferrari F430 GT2) - 1st FIA GT 2009
ProSpeed Competition (Porsche 997 GT3 RSR) - 2nd FIA GT 2009
Risi Competizione (Ferrari F430 GT) - 1st Petit Le Mans 2009

  2. Isn’t this one of the first times where Audi haven’t received an Auto invite!?

Also… So Sad that JLOC is getting one!, hope they say no thanks!, they SHOULD NOT be at Le Mans!, give the invite to WR!

  3. JLOC better have a decent car @ Le Mans! Maybe the new R-SV!

  4. JLOC were a total joke at le mans last year. they no way deserve to be there next year. its a pity because its great to see and listen to a murcielago at la sarthe.[run by a competant team]

  5. EXACTLY! they could give it to Labre so there will actually be some good competition at le mans.

  6. Mind you that the 2009 GT1 cars will not be allowed in 2010. So any team entering will either have to convert theirs to a 2010-legal car or get a new one.

In recent years JLOC did not get an automatic entry, this year they got it because they finished two 3 hour races and took the title.

So based on previous attempts at Le Mans I can understand the remarks, based on Asian Le Mans Series results and regulations they deserve the entry.

  7. Wow 2009 invites are a real crapshoot, just goes to show ya how much Le Mans racing has really declined in the past year or so…

  8. Its not so bad. Gt2 and p1 have some real quality teams. Jloc is actually a well funded team. They just decide to use lemans as a field trip for their wealthy club members. Japanese lamborghini owners club. They do everything on their own. I miss gt1 astons. Good sound and i liked how they ran in tandem.

  9. Larbre Competition not getting an automatic entry ! why ? the ACO said they haven’t done the whole season, thats foolish !!! while the team finished 2nd in the LMS series and went to Okayama too, now its clear between the ACO and the French team its the war, started last year when the Saleen entry was dropped…

  10. Has anyone seen an explanation of why Dyson did not get the nod because of the wing, yet L-F (who the entire season with non-spec) did?

    Typical French…

  11. hey anybody else notice the mc12 invite???? their eligible now to enter?

    Posted by dynasty83 | November 22, 2009, 19:02
  12. The MC12’s are now eligible as the “new” GT1 Cat. They won the FIA GT series. Although we need some aston martins and Nissans in there!!

  13. Corvette Racing should be allowed to transfer their invitation to GT2, it just wouldn’t be LeMans without Team Corvette!

  14. JLOC were a waste of a space at Le Mans last year. Disgraceful and insulting to the fans who paid/travelled to see the race. Pit walkabout on Friday…stop by to throw something unpleasant into their pit box please. Imagine if every team behaved like them, one lap to say the car has been to Le Mans and that’s it. We’d have no race and it will damage the image/reputation of Le Mans.
